okay. just over two weeks until we leave. breath breath breath.
things we have done in the last little while:
-found an apartment. yay! one last thing we have to do when we get there. this took a lot of stress off our shoulders.
-got vacuum seal bags to smush our clothes, blankets, etc down about 4 sizes (a must do when only taking 3 suitcases. i’ve done a trial pack of a couple suitcases to see what fits
-got rid of more stuff
-called to have our cell phones cancelled for when we leave- we’ll set up new phones (that are much much cheaper in Spain) when we arrive
-cancelled our health cards for when we move (if you move and don’t claim non-residency from Canada you have to pay crazy taxes in your wordly income- no thanks!)
-called revenue canada to let them know we’re moving abroad
-had to get micro chips for cats and their rabies vaccines
-got air line approved carriers for cats
-downloaded a bunch of apps on the iPad for mymy for when we are travelling
-made a “special document” folder with all of our important documents in it so it’s easy to access and look for specific documents when we are there. we also scanned all our documents so we have electronic copies incase anything happens
-got ride of more stuff
-call me crazy but i’ve also made a grocery list that is in both English and Spanish so that when we get there we can run out and grab our groceries with out having to think too much. i just know once we get there we’re going to have a million things on our mind and the last thing i’m going to want to do is find translations for all the spices we need etc.
-i’ve started learning Spanish on the duolingo app
things we still have to do:
-do our real pack
-get the cats’ papers done (you have to do it within 10 days of your departure)
-fully claim non-residency from Canada once we are in Spain
-once we are in spain i can claim residency in Spain (it’s easier for mymy and josh since they are Portuguese citizens but still fairly easy for me since i’m wife/mommy they can’t deny me)
-josh and mymy still have to do some paperwork to “let them know we are there” once we get there and some more paperwork for his work
i am really excited. a little nervous, but more excited.
i love this language explosion that has happened. mymy is now talking. in full sentences. it makes life a little easier. but most of all, it makes life a little funnier. i think it would be a crime if only i got to laugh at some of her cuteness so i will share it with you…
bamboo is our neighbours dog. she is a white poodle. mymy says: “bamboo have blond hair like mymy!”
we see a robin pulling a worm out of the ground. mymy says: “worm makes a baby bird feel better.”
while getting ready for a bed i ask her “mymy, what time is it?” (thinking she’ll say bedtime). mymy says “six”
“my arm hurts. (long pause) poor baby”
me: “we’re going to the store to get mommy a new bra”
mymy: “mommy wears a big big big bra. mymy wears a little bra.”
mymy sees a chip in the bag that is a little burnt and says: “me no like the bird poo chip.”
oh man she cracks me up!
plastic eggs, pom poms in matching colours, and a muffin tin = loads of fun 🙂
then i decided to re-create this awesome toy by TOMY Toddler (which is actually a really awesome toy) and mymy LOVES it. it’s a challenge for her but not TOO difficult to the point where she doesn’t want to play with it. it’s perfect for her right now. i just drew different faces on the eggs to coordinate with the faces on the paper. it’s also a great way to talk about feelings which is something we are working on right now too.
today was mymy’s first trip to the dentist :O
i knew this wasn’t going to be a great time but i did my best to prepare mymy as much as possible. she doesn’t really like strangers talking close to her, touching her, or paying too much attention to her (especially males). so having some strange man put his fingers in her mouth while she is lying down (also not a fan of lying down- you know, that’s how you fall asleep!) is not her idea of a good time.
i did some research (pinterest!) and got this book.
so yesterday i explained that we were going to the dentist the next day and we read this book a few times. this morning when she woke up i asked her if she remembered where we were going today and she said “teeth!”. smart girl.
before we left i showed her a youtube video of a little girl’s first trip to the dentist. i also showed her a picture of the dentist and told her he was going to look at her teeth today. we got there early so she could get comfortable with her surroundings and not feel rushed. we got in the chair and she sat on my lap. she didn’t like it one bit. as soon as the chair started lying back she started to freak out. knowing i wouldn’t be able to calm her down and talk her into it i made a quick decision. i told the dentist i would hold her arms down while he quickly did his thing. he was super fast and i was whispering “almost done, you’re doing great” in her ear the whole time. i don’t like having to force her into something and i would love to be able to take the time to explain that everything was going to be ok and let her decide to comply with our requests. but i know my determined little girl, and no matter how i would phrase it, once she decides she doesn’t like something, she wont do it. i decided in this situation having it be a quick would be better than drawing it out.
after he was done she got a toothbrush and floss stick which she was happy about. she even waved goodbye to the dentist. we will see what she says to daddy about it!
